چکیده

Introduction: During the last decades polymer therapeutics became more and more an emerging field of interest. An example which has already been intensively studied in clinical trials is the biocompatible polymeric backbone N-(2-hydroxypropyl)-methacrylamide (HPMA). Nevertheless, detailed knowledge about the biodistribution of polymeric drug-delivery systems in living organisms is still lacking. Especially information about the tumor accumulation in vivo due to the enhanced permeability and retention effect are of major interest. Here, positron emission tomography (PET) as non-invasive, molecular whole body imaging technique offers a great opportunity to visualize the in vivo behavior of radioactively labeled polymeric structures.

Imaging of accidental contamination with F-18-solution; a quick trouble-shooting procedure

To the best of our knowledge, imaging of accidental exposure to radioactive fluorine-18 (F-18) due to liquid spill has not been described earlier in the scientific literature. The short half-life of F-18 (t½=110 min), current radiation safety requirements, and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) regulations on radiopharmaceuticals have restrained the occurrence of these incidents. The possibilit...

The effect of fasting on Positron Emission Tomography (PET) imaging

As a nuclear approach, Positron Emission Tomography (PET) is a functional imaging technique which is based on the detection of gamma ray pairs emitted by a positron-emitting radionuclide. There are certain limitations to this technique such as normal tissue uptake. Therefore, it has been recommended that patients prepare before scanning. Fasting for a short while before PET imaging is an exampl...

Calculation of Positron Distribution in the Presence of a Uniform Magnetic Field for the Improvement of Positron Emission Tomography (PET) Imaging Using GEANT4 Toolkit

Introduction Range and diffusion of positron-emitting radiopharmaceuticals are important parameters for image resolution in positron emission tomography (PET). In this study, GEANT4 toolkit was applied to study positron diffusion in soft tissues with and without a magnetic field for six commonly used isotopes in PET imaging including 11C, 13N, 15O, 18F, 68Ga, and 82Rb. Materials and Methods GEA...

Fluorine-18 Radiochemistry, Labeling Strategies and Synthetic Routes

Fluorine-18 is the most frequently used radioisotope in positron emission tomography (PET) radiopharmaceuticals in both clinical and preclinical research. Its physical and nuclear characteristics (97% β(+) decay, 109.7 min half-life, 635 keV positron energy), along with high specific activity and ease of large scale production, make it an attractive nuclide for radiochemical labeling and molecu...

Positron emission tomography (PET) imaging with (18)F-based radiotracers.

Positron Emission Tomography (PET) is a nuclear medicine imaging technique that is widely used in early detection and treatment follow up of many diseases, including cancer. This modality requires positron-emitting isotope labeled biomolecules, which are synthesized prior to perform imaging studies. Fluorine-18 is one of the several isotopes of fluorine that is routinely used in radiolabeling o...
